After Gongsun Zan wins the Battle of Yijing and conquers Hebei， he joins with Liu Bei， who forced Lu Bu to yield at Xu Province， and they head to face Cao Cao. When the defeated Yuan Shao flees back to his native home of Runan， he joins with Yuan Shu， who had also been defeated.
